Hey there!
I’m Shelby Oredson, a landscape artist, military spouse, and mom of four young kids currently living near Annapolis, Maryland. As a Minnesota native and lover of the outdoors, my creative work is deeply rooted in nature and frequently celebrates the three years I spent in Alaska where I became obsessed with mountains, pine trees, and fishing.
Broken Paddle Studio emerged out of the trenches of early motherhood in the fall of 2019. I was a new mom, elbows deep in diapers and sleep deprivation, when I found myself searching for something to call my own, something outside the walls of raising a baby. Randomly, I stumbled upon a watercolor tutorial and, after dusting off my college paintbrushes, dove headfirst into re-learning the unpredictable nature of this fragile paint.
I had always been artistic, but never believed it could amount to anything more than a hobby.
Then, a few months after watching that watercolor tutorial, friends and family started asking how they could buy my paintings. It was the confidence boost I needed to turn my nap time hobby into an official small business.
My business officially launched in the winter of 2019 and now, several years later, I’m proud to say I have thousands of online sales, have sold at countless in-person events and markets, and my work can be found in more than thirty stores across the country.
When I’m not painting or entertaining my kids, I love hosting game night with friends (and wine), hiking the trails, fishing with my husband, or cozying up on the couch to watch a good flick.
Truly, thank you for being here! I hope you find something you love.
